Large capacity in a small footprint

The Q7 is suitable for general data storage archiving or system backup. It is also suitable for "near on-line" storage and cataloged retrieval of large files (i.e. image files) and large sequential data sets. With up to 1.96TB of compressed data storage capacity - 28 DLT tape cartridges and two tape drives - the Q7 packs tremendous capacity into a minimal space in either a rack-mount or desk-side configuration.

Designed for maximum performance

The Q7's cartridge carousel offers one of the most "megabyte-dense" storage devices available. In addition, the carousel and robotic picker move simultaneously to speed tape handling and improve performance. Two SCSI paths and external SCSI termination provide maximum configuration flexibility by allowing up to two separate computing systems to back up to one Q7. This also ensures maximum performance by reducing contention for the interface connection.

Laser positioning ensures accuracy

The heart of the Q7 is a patented positioning system that uses a pinpoint laser beam to perform two separate functions. Cartridge Inventory The Q7 laser performs a non-contact inventory by scanning the cartridge bar codes while rotating the carousel, which takes less than one minute. Other companies' libraries must physically touch each cartridge to do an inventory that can take up to 30 minutes. Continuous Robotic Calibration The robot can sense changes in the physical environment and then adjust for those changes, significantly reducing downtime and lowering overall service costs.

Easy access eliminates service calls

All tape drives and electronic assemblies are quickly accessed at the back and front of the library. You can easily replace parts or perform an upgrade with only a screw-driver in less than five minutes - no service call is required.

Media exchange

To exchange media for off-site backup or archival purposes, just open the door, lift out the magazines and replace any or all of the four magazines and continue operations. There's no need to wait for the robot to do mass imports or exports.
